Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a minimally invasive, comfortable, superficial exfoliating treatment. A blade is used to exfoliate the uppermost layers of your skin while also removing fine facial hair. Those with acne scars, actinic keratosis (scaly skin patches that can lead to skin cancer), dull or dry skin, peach fuzz, skin damaged by sun exposure, and fine lines should consider dermaplaning. This no-downtime treatment will give you smoother skin immediately and can help reduce the appearance of acne scars or other skin imperfections.

Like some of our other services, recovery varies from person to person. Typically, after treatment, your skin may be slightly pink, but that should subside within a few hours. Please refrain from sweating, steaming, exfoliating, and sun right after the service, just like with any other facial. Ensure you apply SPF as directed, as the new skin is quickly burned. You may resume your normal activities and use your skincare products and makeup 24 hours after service is complete. Please note that products containing active ingredients will penetrate the skin more profoundly, and you may feel a slight tingle or burning sensation upon application.

Why You Should Book a Dermaplaning Treatment

  • Your products will penetrate better, in turn yielding faster results
  • Makeup application will be flawless
  • Your skin will be smooth
  • You will experience advanced exfoliation (especially for rosacea clients)
  • Vellus hair will be removed
  • Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types (excluding acneic clients, grade III or above)

Inflamed, peeling, swollen, or bruised skin can not get this treatment. In addition, anyone who has been on acne medication such as Accutane or Isotretinoin in the last twelve months is also not a good candidate for this treatment.

Thoughts From Our Spa Director, Erin

Dermaplaning immediately rejuvenates the skin by removing the top layer of skin cells and vellus hair from the stratum corneum. It is highly effective in minimizing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars while leaving skin smooth, supple, and vibrant.

Dermaplaning increases the penetration of active ingredients in treatment rooms and home care products. It creates the perfect canvas for makeup application and is the go-to treatment to prepare for high-profile occasions. Dermaplaning today is different than it was when it originated. The results are better now that we’re using less aggressive methods!

At Smoothe, we prep the skin with an AHA/BHA toner to begin the desquamation process and apply a light nourishing oil to allow a more comfortable glide across the skin.

With proper technique, more than the vellus hairs are removed. Dermaplaning is an exfoliation treatment and should not be seen as a hair removal method. If hair removal is your goal, we recommend waxing as the best option. When only the hairs on the face are shaved down, and the dry keratinized skin remains, the natural oil production from each sebaceous gland now has no means of escaping from the follicle, increasing the probability of breakouts, as the hair shaft is your body’s highway for oil to reach the surface of the skin. Without that highway, the oil builds up under the dry skin. This is why it is advised to see a professional for this treatment and ditch the face shavers at home.

Dermaplaning is now available at Smoothe & Co.!

We can’t wait for you to see the results.
