The Results of Our Personalized Approach to Skin Care
When treating acne there is no one-size-fits-all way to approach it. Viral trends and advice from unlicensed individuals or professionals giving “blanket” recommendations for products and methods that worked for them are not going to give everyone the same results. Often these trendy DIY treatments worsen people’s condition, leading to more discomfort and embarrassment. There are often many factors that contribute to the different stages of acne breakout including diet, hormones, lifestyle, and family genes. Simply “drying out” acne with active ingredients is not a solution for all that suffer from minor to severe breakouts.
Meet Elena
When Elena first came to us at Smoothe, the most urgent concern we recognized was her compromised skin barrier. (Read up on her journey here!) Due to an overuse of drying acne products, her skin was stripped of its natural oils and the ability to regulate surface lipids. Her problems began when she was in her late teen years and progressed to adulthood.

Home care accounts for about 80% of your treatment plan with our professional treatments making up the remaining 20%. Elena was diligent in booking appointments every two-to-four weeks. These consisted of customized enzyme treatments, Celluma light therapy, extractions when appropriate (not all pustules are able to be extracted!), and a round of chemical peels. Her skin barrier is now HEALTHY! And her breakouts are under control.

The next steps for Elena’s skin journey are regular maintenance facials, a continued home care regimen, and microneedling treatments! Microneedling will help increase the collagen production of her skin to reduce the visible signs of pitted scarring and PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). We love journeys like these! While we hate to see our clients uncomfortable and in pain, being able to see our clients smile and gush over their newfound confidence is beyond worth it!
